Ambassador Shamieh meets with Philippine Foreign minister

Thursday-7 February 2019, Manila/Philippines, Ambassador Dr. Mazen Shamieh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and expatriates for Asia, Africa and Australia, Began his visit to the Republic of the Philippines with a meeting with the Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin, in the presence of the Philippine Assistant Secretary of State for Asia and Africa and director Management of the Middle East and North Africa, and a number of senior officials of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Shamieh said the meeting marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Philippine-Palestinian relations. He also conveyed greetings and congratulations to his Philippine counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, and greetings from foreign minister and expatriates Dr. Riad Malki to his Philippine counterpart.

Ambassador Shamieh also reviewed developments in the Palestinian situation, especially in the light of the Israeli and American attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause, especially after the US administration decided to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, close the PLO office in Washington, and cut off all U.S. assistance to Palestinian institutions and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) these blatant steps are a violation of all United Nations resolutions and international law, and the United States ' commitments to the peace process for the Palestinian side.

The Philippine Foreign Minister stressed his country's stance in support of the Palestinian cause, the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and national independence, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions. The ambassador also reviewed Levantine with the foreign Minister on bilateral relations and regional and international issues.

The Philippine Foreign Minister stressed his country's desire to develop relations with Palestine, and the two sides agreed to sign a political consultation agreement on the follow-up and review of bilateral political and diplomatic relations and cooperation in regional and international affairs, specifically in the United Nations and its organizations, and other regional organizations such as Afro-Asian, ASEAN, and SICA.

The two sides also agreed to establish a framework agreement for bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, trade and economy, investment, tourism, health, education, security and counter-terrorism, culture and interfaith dialogue.

Ambassador Walid Abu Ali, Ambassador of the State of Palestine in  Malaysia, participated in this meeting together with Ambassador Shamieh and Yuaad Jaradat  Third Secretary at the ministry's headquarters.
