The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the decision taken by the Republic of Nicaragua to break its diplomatic ties with Israel

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the decision taken by the Republic of Nicaragua to break its diplomatic ties with Israel, citing the ongoing brutal killing and destruction inflicted upon the Palestinian people as part of a broad and continuous campaign of genocide that has persisted for over a year.

The Ministry also welcomes the statement issued by the Nicaraguan government regarding this decision, which clearly outlined the rationale: “In Permanent Solidarity with the People and Government of Palestine, with the Peoples who suffer from martyrdom, destruction and barbarism, and in strict adherence to International Law and the Conventions that govern civilized relations between States and governments of the world, the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua decides to break all Diplomatic Relations with the fascist government of Israel.”

The Ministry considers this position as a reflection of Nicaragua’s high level of responsibility as a member of the international community, by taking concrete steps to halt the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and other peoples in the region, as well as to uphold their right to live in freedom, security, dignity, and peace.

The Ministry hopes that this decision will serve as a model by other friendly governments to take similar measures, as a means of holding Israel accountable for the genocide it is committing against the Palestinian people, and as a reaffirmation of the grave consequences of allowing Israel to continue to enjoy impunity with no accountability —a situation that has enabled this war to escalate to unprecedented levels.
