The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemns the approval by the so-called Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Knesset of two bills that target UNRWA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemns the approval by the so-called Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Knesset of two bills that target UNRWA, which hinders and restrict the agencies work in the occupied territory.
The Ministry vehemently condemns these attempts to undermine UNRWA and its vital work. And views this draft law as a blatant attack on the United Nations and its agencies. These decisions are seen as part of Israel, the occupying power, broader systematic efforts to dismantle the agency's work and the issue of Palestine refugees, and their right of return under Resolution 194.
The Ministry underscores the immunities and privileges granted to UNRWA under international law and various international agreements. It considers the Israeli actions as illegal, null, and void, and as blatant violations of international law, particularly the recent UN General Assembly resolution that affirmed the illegality of the occupation. Such actions further contribute to the record of Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.
This aggressive stance against UNRWA comes at a critical time when the agency's humanitarian services are more crucial than ever, given the devastating consequences of the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
In light of these circumstances, the State of Palestine calls on the international community to take immediate and decisive action to protect the Palestinian people and UN relief agencies in Gaza and the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem. It is imperative to ensure that UNRWA can continue to deliver its vital services to Palestine refugees in accordance with its UN mandate. The State of Palestine urges the international community to actively take actions against Israel’s systematic campaign to dismantle UNRWA and revoke its immunities.
