Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Welcomes Human Rights Council Resolutions on Israeli Settlements and Palestinian Self-Determination

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the resolutions on “Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan” and on “the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.” Both resolutions reaffirm the illegality of Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. They also stress the responsibility of states to ensure protection for the Palestinian people, to refrain from recognizing or assisting the occupying Power, and to intensify international efforts to end grave violations of international law and the daily crimes committed against our people.
The Ministry considers these resolutions a clear reaffirmation of the international consensus rejecting Israel’s colonial policies, and a victory for international law, justice, and human rights—especially at a time when the Palestinian people are enduring extremely difficult conditions under occupation and systematic violations.
The Ministry underscores the importance of these resolutions at this critical time, as the occupying authorities continue to entrench illegal annexation and colonial practices, including settlement expansion, land confiscation, and ongoing violations against Palestinians. These resolutions also come amid a dangerous escalation, including the approval by the Israeli Knesset of legislation permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, an alarming step that reflects a retaliatory and discriminatory mindset and a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law.
The Ministry warns that the absence of effective international accountability for the Israeli government, its forces, and settler militias, and the continued policy of impunity, has emboldened further crimes and serious violations against our people. This necessitates urgent international action to halt these policies and hold those responsible accountable.
In this context, the Ministry expresses its deep appreciation to the states that voted in favor of the resolutions, affirming that their positions reflect a genuine commitment to international law and human rights. It also calls on states that did not support these resolutions to review their positions, align with justice and international legitimacy, and move to the right side of history.
A total of 34 states voted in favor of the resolution on Israeli settlements, while 3 voted against and 10 abstained. As for the resolution on the right to self-determination, 42 states voted in favor, while 5 abstained.
The Ministry reiterates its call on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by taking concrete steps to ensure the implementation of these resolutions, to bring an end to the Israeli occupation, and to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and realize their independent, sovereign State with East Jerusalem as its capital.
