Minister Shaheen Meets Swedish Parliament Speaker and Church Union Leaders in Stockholm
Dr. Shahin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Palestine, met with Swedish Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlén and political representatives, emphasizing the urgency of addressing Israel’s ongoing genocide and war crimes. The Minister detailed the 419-day assault on Gaza, including the systematic destruction aimed at making Gaza uninhabitable, and the annexation, settlement expansion, and desecration of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Palestinian Territory including East Jerusalem.
Dr. Shahin called on Sweden to lead efforts in recognizing Palestine as a state, securing full UN membership, and enforcing the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion. She also urged immediate international action to end the Israeli war crime.
In a meeting with leaders of the Swedish Church Union, Dr. Shahin emphasized the vital role of global religious institutions in safeguarding Palestine’s Islamic and Christian holy sites. She thanked the Church Union for its solidarity with the Palestinian cause and called for stronger international church advocacy to protect these sacred sites and to demand an end to Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian people.
Accompanied by senior officials, Dr. Shahin reinforced Palestine’s readiness to rebuild Gaza, contingent on halting the Israeli war crimes, and called for decisive Swedish leadership on the international stage.
