Minister of Foreign Affairs Varsen Shahin took part in Mediterranean Day and the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona

Minister of Foreign Affairs Varsen Shahin took part in Mediterranean Day and the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona, held under the joint presidency of the European Union and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with the participation of Arab and European ministers.

In her intervention, Minister Shahin stressed that the Palestinian issue lies at the core of stability in the Mediterranean region, reaffirming that genuine security, development, and partnership cannot be achieved without ending the Israeli occupation and realizing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.

She highlighted the escalation, displacement, and systematic destruction in the West Bank and Gaza over the past two years, noting that these developments pose a direct threat to regional stability and require serious international action to protect the Palestinian people and stop ongoing violations.

The Minister underlined the need for accountability and an end to impunity, emphasizing that the absence of justice undermines political and developmental efforts and weakens multilateral initiatives.

Mediterranean ministers reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian question to regional security and stability, stressing that no lasting stability can be achieved without a just and comprehensive solution based on international law and UN resolutions.

The discussions also addressed the UfM’s role in supporting sustainable development, empowering youth and women, and promoting intercultural dialogue, goals that require a political environment rooted in justice and peace.
