Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin, met with Robert Dobrovodsky, Commissioner for Human Rights of Slovakia

The two sides discussed the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, with particular focus on the conditions of children in Gaza Strip amid the severe humanitarian crisis and grave violations committed against the Palestinian people. Minister Shahin stressed that the protection of Palestinian children is an urgent priority. They also reviewed available international mechanisms to strengthen the protection of human rights in Palestine, emphasizing that respect for international law is not a political option but a moral and legal obligation toward the Palestinian people.

In a separate meeting, Minister Shahin met with Marian Kery, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of National Council of Slovakia, where she outlined the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, the obstruction of humanitarian aid, the continued targeting of Palestinians, and the failure to uphold the ceasefire. She also briefed him on the serious developments in West Bank and Jerusalem highlighting grave breaches of international law, settlement policies, and annexation plans aimed at imposing a new reality on the ground.

For his part, Kery expressed concern over the grave human rights violations and reaffirmed Slovakia’s support for the two-state solution and for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.
