Minister Shaheen Briefs Brazilian Senate Members on Latest Developments in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Varsen Shaheen, met with a group of members from the Brazilian Senate in Brasilia, in the presence of the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Nelsinho Trad, and Palestinian Ambassador to Brazil Ibrahim Al-Zaben, to brief them on the latest developments in Palestine, especially amidst the ongoing Israeli crimes in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The minister briefed the Senate members on the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, underscoring Israel’s blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and its ongoing perpetration of atrocities, including a series of massacres across the entire Gaza Strip. She also emphasized the worsening situation in the northern West Bank, where Israeli forces are working to impose permanent military control, posing a serious threat to the entire occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, and attempting to extend this policy to other cities, towns, and refugee camps in the West Bank.
Minister Shaheen reaffirmed that Israel, the occupying power, continues to violate the ceasefire, resulting in the martyrdom of over 400 Palestinian citizens so far, in a clear continuation of the war crimes being committed against the Palestinian people, disregarding all international laws and conventions. She called on the Brazilian Senate to take concrete steps to support Palestinian rights, including banning the import of Israeli settlement products, holding Israeli settlers involved in war crimes accountable, and enhancing diplomatic efforts to hold the occupying power accountable for its ongoing assaults. 
For their part, the members of the Brazilian Senate expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian cause, reaffirming the importance of respecting Palestinian rights in accordance with international law, and emphasizing the need to continue dialogue to strengthen Brazil’s position in support of justice and peace in the region.
