Malki receives his Italian counterpart and informs him about the latest developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs and expatriates Dr. Riad Maliki received Tuesday at the ministry's headquarters in the city of Ramallah, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy, Mr. Enzo Moavero . In the presence of the Assistant Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Amal Jado, and the Italian consul general in Jerusalem Mr. Fabio .  In addition,  to a high-level delegation from both sides.

 

During the meeting, Malki touched upon the Israeli escalation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the difficulty of moving the peace process under the complexities of the current situation, especially after the recent US positions.

 

"We are very much counting on the Italian role within the European Union and helping us re-activate the peace process and push it forward," he said.

 

Malki stressed the readiness of the State of Palestine to join any peace initiative from any country or group of nations, in order to activate the political process and return it to the right path to reach an agreement that would end the occupation and pave the way for an independent Palestinian state.

 

"In the next few days there will be a meeting at the level of the Arab and European Union for the preparation of the Arab-European summit, which will be held at the end of next month in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and hopes that this summit would focus on the Palestinian issue and provide the necessary tools To launch a meaningful, effective and balanced peace process.

 

"Italy's position on the peace process is very important, and it is always striving to reach the final solution to the Palestinian issue," he said.

 

Mr. Moavero stressed the importance of returning to the peace process because of its importance to the region, and said that there must be trust between the two parties because it is a norm that leads to the desired result, noting that Italy spares no effort in cooperation with European countries to advance the peace process based on the reference and United Nations resolutions,

 

‘’I am referring to Italy continuing to support the Palestinian people in order to build institutions.’’

 

Later, the two ministers held a press conference, during which Minister Malki called on the international community to compel Israel to abide by the agreement on the presence of the temporary international Mission in the city of Hebron, after the Israeli occupying government's threat of non-renewal of its existence.

 

Italy is one of the six countries participating in the mission, along with Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
