Minister of Foreign Affairs Varsen Shahin took part in the opening of the Mediterranean Charter in Barcelona, alongside senior EU officials, the Spanish Foreign Minister, and Arab and European counterparts, accompanied by Ambassador Amal Jado Shakaa.
In her remarks, Minister Shahin highlighted the political and humanitarian situation in Palestine, thanked Spain for hosting the event, and underscored the role of the Union for the Mediterranean in promoting stability, development, and regional cooperation.
She stressed that the ongoing assaults in Gaza and the systematic destruction in the West Bank threaten regional stability, reaffirming that no real security or development in the Mediterranean is possible without ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of strengthening Palestine’s presence within the Mediterranean framework and enhancing cooperation in areas such as development, economy, energy, environment, and education to support Palestinian resilience.
She concluded by reaffirming Palestine’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy and its active role within the Mediterranean system in pursuit of a just peace and strengthened regional cooperation based on justice and human rights.
