Press Statement

The State of Palestine extends its gratitude to the outgoing Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Ms. Fatou Bensouda, for her service, contribution, and longstanding dedication to international justice. Despite unprecedented violent attacks against the Court and its personnel, Ms.Bensouda reinforced the independence and impartiality of the Court  and advanced justice.

The State of Palestine once again congratulates Prosecutor Karim Khan for his election and wishes him a successful term. As he takes over the helm of the Court during these challenging times, the State of Palestine trusts that he will continue to fulfil and uphold the mandate and responsibilities of the Court, without fear or favour, and deliver justice and accountability, including to the Palestinian people.

In this regard the State of Palestine looks forward to constructively engage with the Court and to ensure an effective and expeditious investigation process, based solely on law and evidence.  This is necessary to decisively contribute towards an end to this dangerous persistence of impunity. Indeed, the Court has a moral urgency in pursuing accountability for Israel's crimes, which is central to justice for both the Palestinian people and the international community.

The State of Palestine wishes to take this opportunity to underline the importance and deep faith that the Palestinian people are placing in the Court and the ongoing investigation. We hope that justice will be served by succeeding in the quest for accountability and deterrence of further crimes.
Finally, the State of Palestine reaffirms its solid commitment to upholding its legal obligations and will continue to fully cooperate with the Court.
