Official Palestinian delegation headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on an official visit to Honduras

A high-level Palestinian delegation headed by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expatriates on Saturday, 26 January 2019, travelled to the Republic of Honduras, to visit the Republic of Guatemala as part of a Central American tour.

The visit included several meetings at all official and popular levels. The visit began with a meeting with the Palestinian community in San Pedro de Sola and another meeting in the capital of Tegucigalpa, during which the attendees were placed in the form of internal and regional political conditions, and the challenges facing Palestine at various levels, which require more unity and solidarity among all in Inside and out.

The delegation also met with the mayor of the capital of Tegucigalpa, Mr. Nasri Asfori, of Palestinian origin, and discussed the importance of the role of the Palestinian community in preventing Honduras from transferring its embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing it as the capital of the State of Israel. He was also informed of the Palestinian side's desire to promote bilateral relations between Honduras and Palestine and the interest of the Palestinian side in opening an embassy of the state of Palestine in Honduras in response to the repeated demands of the community in this regard.

The delegation also met with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of External Relations of the Republic of Honduras, Ambassador José Isaias Barhona Herrera, where the issue of the transfer of the Honduran embassy to Jerusalem was discussed, which is a breach of international law, explaining the negative consequences of this decision. The delegation also touched upon the Palestinian Government's desire to promote bilateral relations between Honduras and Palestine at various economic, cultural and developmental levels if the political conditions were to be met. The delegation also conveyed the desire of the State of Palestine to open an embassy in Honduras in response to the community's demands.

The visit also included meetings of religious men from various churches, foremost among them the Evangelical church, informing him of the reality of Israeli fabrications and the misleading propaganda used by religion for political purposes.

Counsellor Hanan Jarrar, Assistant Secretary for the Americas and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expatriates, presided over the official delegation, which included both a member of the National Council and former mayor of Bethlehem, Ms. Vera Babon, human rights activist and international law expert Dr. Jonathan Kuttab, and board member, Mr. Fayez Al-Sakka, and the Central American relations officer Linda Dar Issa. The delegation is accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Palestine in Honduras, Mr. Elias Kharufah, and the President of the Palestinian community in Honduras, Mr. Attallah Jaar. The Palestinian community in Honduras is the largest in the Central American region and the second largest in Latin America, with about 300,000 more than Chile.
