The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates: The Israeli Knesset's decision to classify UNRWA as a "terrorist" organization is a premeditated hostility that aim to dissolve the Palestine refugee

The Ministry affirms its continuous political, diplomatic, and legal efforts to ensure the implementation of UNRWA's mandate in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates: The Israeli Knesset's decision to classify UNRWA as a "terrorist" organization is a premeditated hostility that aim to dissolve the Palestine refugee issue and a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2730 (2024).

The Ministry affirms  its continuous  political, diplomatic, and legal efforts to ensure the implementation of UNRWA's 
mandate in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Ministry considers the Israeli Knesset's first reading approval on Monday, 22 July 2024, of a draft law classifying UNRWA as a "terrorist organization" a premeditated hostility that aim to eliminate the Palestine refugee issue and their inherited right to return in accordance to United Nations resolutions. 

This decision is part of a systematic incitement campaign carried out by Israel, the occupying power, which became evident during the recent genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, both through Israeli officials public statements and by targeting UNRWA, its officials, headquarters, institutions, resources, and staff.  Which was exemplified yesterday by IOF targeting of a UN aid convoy en route to the Gaza Strip.

It also affirms that this is a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2730, adopted on May 24, 2024, which obliges states to respect and protect UN institutions and humanitarian workers, a provision that applies to UNRWA, its institutions, and its staff.

The Ministry reaffirms its continuous political, diplomatic, and legal efforts to ensure that UNRWA's mandate is implemented as effectively as possible in accordance with relevant General Assembly resolutions, including Resolutions 194 (III) and 302 (IV), and all other related resolutions. 

It calls for amplified international efforts to preserve UNRWA's mandate and ensure its sustainability until the rights of palestine refugees are realized and a just solution is achieved, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 194 and the right to return of refugees to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced.

The Ministry referenced the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion, which affirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, which falls within UNRWA's areas of operation. The Ministry urges the international community to align with the Palestinian stance in rejecting the Knesset's decision, viewing it as another tool to reinforce the occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people. Additionally, the Ministry calls for boycotts and sanctions against all those who voted in favor of this unjust decision.
