Minister Shahin Receives a Copy of the Credentials of the New Spanish Consul General to the State of Palestine
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin received a copy of the credentials of the new Consul General of Spain, José Javier Gutiérrez Blanco-Navarrete, during a meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Minister Shahin underscored the deep and longstanding friendship between Palestine and Spain, expressing appreciation for Spain’s principled positions in international platforms. She commended Spain’s steadfast support, particularly during the Tenth Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly, which called for a ceasefire and reinforced international backing for UNRWA.
Highlighting the broader international obligation to support Palestinian refugees, Minister Shahin emphasized the need for the European Union to exert decisive influence to secure continued funding for UNRWA, stressing the agency’s indispensable role in safeguarding their rights and humanitarian needs.
On global peace efforts, the Minister welcomed the Spanish-Portuguese initiative to convene an international peace conference to advance the two-state solution. She described this initiative as a pivotal step toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace, underscoring the importance of international momentum and unified efforts.
Additionally, Minister Shahin congratulated Spain on its election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term and expressed confidence in Spain’s leadership in promoting global human rights. She highlighted Spain’s ability to foster consensus and facilitate meaningful dialogue within the Council.
