Minister Shahin Meets Lisbon Muslim Community and Unveils Al-Aqsa Artwork

Minister of Foreign Affairs Varsen Shahin visited the Lisbon Central Mosque, where she met with representatives of the Muslim and Palestinian communities and the President of the Islamic Community of Lisbon, Dr. Mohammad Iqbal.

The Minister unveiled a mother-of-pearl artwork depicting Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, gifted by the State of Palestine to the mosque in recognition of the bonds of solidarity with the Muslim community in Portugal. The artwork was handcrafted by Palestinian artisans.

Discussions addressed the political and humanitarian situation in Palestine, the suffering caused by the Israeli occupation, and the importance of international solidarity with the Palestinian people, respect for international law, and protection of civilians, holy sites and Palestinian heritage.

The Minister commended the Muslim community’s role in promoting dialogue and coexistence in Portuguese society, stressing the importance of strengthening ties between Palestine and Portuguese communities.

The visit marks Shahin’s first official visit to Portugal since the country recognized the State of Palestine in September 2025.
