Minister Shahin Leads Palestine’s Delegation at the High-Level Segment of UNEA-7

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin, led the State of Palestine’s delegation at the High-Level Segment of the 7th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, attended by heads of state, ministers, and senior international officials.

In her statement, Minister Shahin affirmed that environmental protection is essential for human rights and sustainable development, highlighting the severe environmental and health consequences of the Israeli assault on Gaza, which require urgent international action.

She stressed the need for immediate global support to address environmental damage, advance recovery and reconstruction, restore water resources and biodiversity, expand renewable energy, and strengthen climate-adaptation efforts.

The Minister emphasized that safeguarding Palestine’s environment is impossible without ending the Israeli occupation, the root cause of ongoing environmental and humanitarian violations in the West Bank and Gaza.

Minister Shahin thanked UNEP for its preliminary and updated reports on the environmental impacts of the war on Gaza and praised the close cooperation with relevant Palestinian institutions.

Minister Shahin concluded by reaffirming Palestine’s commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable development model and contributing to global efforts to protect the planet.
