Minister Shahin Engages with UNCTAD Secretary-General

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Shahin met with Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in the presence of Ambassador Ibrahim Khraisheh , Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the UN in Geneva.

The Minister emphasized Palestine’s commitment to national unity and strengthening the resilience of its institutions amid ongoing political and economic challenges. She praised UNCTAD’s efforts in documenting the economic costs of the occupation and the severe losses sustained by the Palestinian economy due to ongoing occupation. She also welcomed the forthcoming UNCTAD report, scheduled for release later this week, which will detail Palestine’s economic losses over the past two years. The discussion also covered UNCTAD’s research and studies under its Assistance to the Palestinian People program, supporting state-building, sustainable development, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Palestine.

Grynspan expressed appreciation for Palestine’s support for UNCTAD’s work and reaffirmed the organization’s pivotal role in assisting the Palestinian people. She stressed UNCTAD’s continued commitment to providing all possible support within its capacities to enhance economic development and empower Palestinian national institutions.
