Minister Shaheen Urges Chilean Senate and Chamber of Deputies to Adopt a Resolution on Settlement Boycott and Arms Trade Ban with Israel

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Shaheen, met with a group of senators and members of the Chamber of Deputies from various political parties at the Chilean Parliament. She urged them to adopt a resolution calling on the Chilean government to boycott all activities related to Israeli settlements and to impose sanctions on extremist settlers responsible for crimes against Palestinians.
As part of this effort, Shaheen presented the parliamentarians with a list of companies operating in Israeli settlements, emphasizing the importance of a complete boycott. She stressed that accountability is crucial for upholding international law, protecting human rights, and ensuring justice.
Additionally, the Minister called on Chilean lawmakers to push for a ban on arms trade with Israel, underscoring the legal, humanitarian, and political significance of such a measure. She highlighted Israel’s documented violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory, including indiscriminate bombings and excessive use of force against civilians. Restricting arms sales to Israel, she argued, would help curb its ability to conduct military operations that violate international law.

In response, members of parliament across party lines reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and pledged to work towards implementing these legitimate demands. As the meeting concluded, Minister Shaheen was invited as a guest to a parliamentary session, where she was formally welcomed. The session opened with a full minute of applause from the attending parliamentarians, accompanied by chants in solidarity with Palestine.
