Minister Shaheen Meets with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization
Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Shaheen, met on Wednesday in Geneva with the Director General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo.
Minister Shaheen commended the strong partnership between the ILO and Palestine, particularly in light of the brutal Israeli assault aimed at eradicating the Palestinian presence on its land. She emphasized the need to protect the Palestinian people and prevent forced displacement. She also stressed the importance of international intervention to halt the grave violations faced by Palestinian workers, including arbitrary arrests, summary executions, and the denial of fundamental rights.
Furthermore, Minister Shaheen called for the organization’s urgent intervention to support Palestinian workers and business owners, safeguard their rights, and ensure proper compensation.
For his part, Mr. Houngbo reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to supporting Palestine and its labor sector in accordance with its charter and international laws. He underscored the organization’s efforts to uphold workers’ rights and ensure the continuation of its mandate in this regard.
