Minister Shaheen Discusses Latest Developments with British Consul General and Urges Recognition of the State of Palestine

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr.Varsen Shaheen, met with the British Consul General in Jerusalem, Helen Winterton, in the presence of Ambassador Adel Attieh, Director of the European Affairs Department.

During the meeting, Minister Shaheen provided an overview of the latest developments in the Occupied Palestinian territory including the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza resulted by the ongoing Israeli genocidal war and grave assaults against Palestinian civilians and infrastructure.

Minister Shaheen also
highlighted the ongoing escalation of assaults in the West Bank including Occupied Jerusalem which systematically undermine the prospects of the two-state solution. She emphasized that upholding the International Law and the International Humanitarian Law is a prerequisite to achieving stability and security in the region.

Dr. Shaheen called on Britain to officially recognize the State of Palestine, aligning with international justice principles and UN resolutions. She stressed that such recognition would be a political and moral message affirming the right of Palestinians to self-determination and signaling that the occupation cannot continue indefinitely.

For her part, Ms. Winterton affirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting efforts for a just and comprehensive peace and implementing international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian cause.
