Malki praises Malaysia’s plan to open embassy for Palestine

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riad al-Malki, praised Malaysia on Sunday after the country’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad declared his country’s plan to open an embassy in Jordan accredited for Palestine.

“Malaysia's stance is a blessed initiative by a courageous Malaysian leadership with a vision committed to supporting the Palestinian cause and international legitimacy and its decisions,” Al-Malki said in a statement.

He said the Malaysian announcement proves that Malaysia “is not intimidated by threats and pressure practiced against it by some world powers.”

Al-Malki said he had met with the Malaysian Prime Minister on the sideline of the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, Azerbaijan, and thanked him on behalf of the leadership and people of Palestine on this courageous step.

He added that he made it clear to the Malaysian leader that “his statements and positions provide strength to our people and strengthen their steadfastness in the face of the daily Israeli assaults.”
