Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Varsen  Shahin, commended UNESCO for its steadfast efforts to protect and preserve Palestinian cultural heritage from theft and falsification. During a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters, Dr. Shahin welcomed Ms. Margaux Bergeon-Dars, Chief of Staff at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, and Ms. Leila Naistani, UNESCO Representative to the State of Palestine.

Dr. Shahin underscored the importance of unified efforts to confront the dire challenges facing the Palestinian people amidst ongoing genocide and forced displacement. She stressed the urgency of implementing international resolutions and holding the occupying power accountable under international law. The Minister commended UNESCO’s support for UNRWA’s educational mandate and the recognition of Nablus soap-making as a global cultural heritage. Dr. Shahin highlighted UNESCO’s vital role in fostering cultural and educational partnerships with Palestine. Discussions centered on the devastating impact of war crimes on Gaza’s education sector, underscoring the urgent need for joint action to rebuild and strengthen education systems across Palestine.
