Minister Shaheen Participates in High-Level Panel on Security and Stability Challenges in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, Held in Yerevan

Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen, participated in a high-level panel discussion titled “Security and Stability Challenges in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia”.The panel featured prominent figures including Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Tatiana Molcean, and Nigar Göksel, Project Director of the International Crisis Group, Türkiye .

The discussion focused on the current threats to security and stability in these strategically sensitive regions, particularly in light of escalating regional conflicts and rapidly shifting geopolitical dynamics.

During her intervention, Minister Shahin responded to a question regarding the ongoing war in Gaza. She emphasized that the occupation and the genocide being perpetrated against the Palestinian people are the primary sources of instability and insecurity in the region.

Minister Shahin stressed that the only path to achieving lasting security in the Middle East and beyond begins with the realization of an independent Palestinian state and the end of Palestinian suffering. She asserted that the genocide being waged by the Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian people represents one of the most egregious manifestations of violence and insecurity in the entire region. She further argued that Israel’s expansionist and colonial policies are among the gravest threats to regional stability. She called for an end to the occupation and the revival of a credible peace process that guarantees the Palestinian people their legitimate and inalienable rights, including their right to live in peace and security.

Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin concluded by affirming that sustainable stability requires a comprehensive resolution of the root political causes of the conflict, foremost among them the ongoing occupation and the persistent absence of international justice.
