Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Ethiopian Prime Minister, Briefs Him on Latest Developments in Palestine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Shahin, met with the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, in the presence of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Fares Al-Qub, as part of her official tour in Africa.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Shahin delivered an official letter from President Mahmoud Abbas, conveying his greetings to the Prime Minister.

Minister Shahin briefed the Prime Minister on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the scale of destruction caused by the ongoing Israeli aggression and the resulting unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. She stressed the urgent need for the international community to act to stop continuous Israeli attacks and ensure protection for the Palestinian people.

She also addressed Israel’s policies of apartheid, settlement expansion, settler violence carried out under the protection of the Israeli army, and the isolation of Palestinian cities through checkpoints and barriers, leading to daily violations against civilians.

The Minister presented an update on ceasefire efforts, emphasizing the importance of intensifying international efforts to stabilize the ceasefire, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and begin reconstruction.

Shahin further underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Palestine and Ethiopia and expanding areas of cooperation, reflecting the deep historical ties between the two peoples.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed Minister Shahin on her first visit to Ethiopia, affirming the strong relations between the two nations and reiterating Ethiopia’s support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to freedom and self-determination.
