FM Shahin Discusses Palestinian Developments with Ethiopian Foreign Minister

In Addis Ababa, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin held a meeting with the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Gedion Timotheos Hessebon, with the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador to Ethiopia.

Minister Shahin expressed her appreciation for Ethiopia being her first destination in Africa, highlighting her fruitful meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the positive outcomes of her visit. The two sides discussed recent developments in the Middle East, as the Minister presented a detailed briefing on the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and the daily violations in the West Bank, including settlement expansion, settler violence, and attacks on holy sites. She reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to self-determination under international law and UN resolutions.

The Minister also stressed the need for the international community to uphold the New York Declaration and exert pressure to advance the two-state solution. She thanked Ethiopia for its principled support of Palestinian rights in international fora and reiterated Palestine’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

For his part, Minister Hessebon welcomed the Palestinian delegation, emphasized the deep ties between Africa and the Middle East, and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s support for peace, stability, and a political path that leads to a viable two-state solution.
