In the light of the historic speech delivered by President Mahmoud Abbas before the Security Council yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates circulated to the ambassadors and embassies of the State of Palestine the need to move immediately and effectively towards decision-making centers and public opinion in the host countries, to accelerate renewing the chances of achieving peace between the Israeli and Palestinian sides through negotiations on the basis of the two-state solution. The Ministry affirmed the necessity and importance of working to mobilize and deepen the international consensus supporting the Palestinian positions, particularly the recognition of the State of Palestine as a full member of the UN.
Meanwhile, the ministry stressed the essentiality of exposing the Israeli intransigent and anti-peace positions and policies, mainly the deepening and expansion of settlements construction in the land of the State of Palestine threatening the chances of achieving peace.
In this context, the ministry calls upon the US administration to seize the opportunity of genuine peace provided by the speech of President Mahmoud Abbas to the Security Council and to positively interact with this proposal through expanding the circle of international support for the peace process and achieving its balanced commitment to its terms of reference.
