Undersecretary Jadu Inaugurates the Work of the Palestinian European Joint Commission

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ExpatriatesUndersecretary Ambassador Dr. Amal Jadu inaugurated on Tuesday the Palestinian-European Joint Committee at the ministry's headquarters in Ramallah.

The Committee is chaired by the Prime Minister's Office and includes the membership of six sub-committees in various disciplines, represented by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Justice, Finance, Education, Higher Education, National Economy, Social Development and Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority.

Dr Jadou praised European support for Palestinian institutions and called on the European Union to play a political role to solve the Palestinian issue based on its commitment to the principles of international law, encouraging its member states to recognize the State of Palestine in accordance with the principle of a two-state solution, to confront Israeli policy aimed at undermining the establishment of a viable Palestinian state.

Jadu demanded the EU to initiate formal negotiations to reach a full partnership agreement between Palestine and the EU.

For his part, Chairman of the Palestinian-European Joint Commission, Estefan Salameh, stressed the importance of the relationship with the European Union and continuous cooperation in various sectors to reach a full partnership agreement, in addition to upgrading the work of Palestinian institutions to provide the best services to citizens ,and the recognition of the Palestinian state on the ground. Salameh affirmed the need for the EU to distinguish settlement goods. He also briefed the European partners on the government's plan to develop clusters and ways to boost the Palestinian economy by supporting the national product and creating opportunities for youth employment.

The committee also discussed ways to improve the level of Palestinian-European cooperation in several other areas.
